The competition, accepting applications until October 10, rewards Zimbabwean
organisations taking an entrepreneurial approach to education in Africa. Run by the international development charity Teach A Man To Fish and sponsored by Educating Africa, the competition has a top prize of US$10,000, two runner-ups of US$5,000, and awards US$1,000 to the best entrant from every country in Africa. The top three awardees will receive their prizes in early 2012 and all-expense-paid
trips to the 2012 ‘Education That Pays For Itself’ conference in Africa.
Teach A Man To Fish, a UK-based charity, started this competition to showcase the innovative educational organizations in Africa that are successfully addressing educational challenges. The competition is open to all organizations based in Africa that are working in primary, secondary, tertiary, non-formal and adult education.
Previous winners include the Mama Zimbi Foundation for empowering widows in Ghana through a pragmatic program of education and Whiz Kids Workshop in Ethiopia for using mass media with educational purposes.
