Msindo, who described President Robert Mugabe as “the black Moses”, said in an interview that men are failing to have time with their wives because of other commitments. He made the outrageous claim that this cause women to seduce prophets.
“Women go to prophets and then some of them get into a relationship. But when the relationship becomes sour they say that they have been raped. Sometimes you see a woman go alone to a prophet. Why don’t they go with another person?” asked Msindo.
The media in Zimbabwe is awash with reports to women being raped by prophets. Msindo said people should look at both sides of the coin because rape cases were complex.
He denies having raped his maid, and says the rape charges are a smear campaign by Mugabe's opponents who want him to add his voice to growing calls by church leaders for the 87-year-old leader to quit.
Msindo is not the first pro-Mugabe pastor to run into trouble with the law. Notable others include Madzibaba Godfrey Nzira, who was recently pardoned by Mugabe, and Lawrence Katsiru who was once charged with raping a teenager.
Both Katsiru and Nzira are now free men. Msindo, who has been ejected from his Destiny for Africa church, said that women in the country were now inclined towards flashy lifestyles and “they go to prophets in order to be married to the rich”.
“Women go to consult prophets for different reasons – some to be married with a man who has cars while others go in order to conceive,” he said.
