The inclusive government has embarked on a feeding programme to benefit children orphaned through HIV and AIDS in Tandi and Chiware villages. However, some Zanu (PF) officials and war veterans in the district have taken over the programme and are demanding that all beneficiaries join the party’s youth league if they want to continue receiving food.
Joseph Chitauro, a former food programme coordinator in Chiware Village, was booted out by overzealous Zanu (PF) war veterans for not following their orders.
“It is sad that children are being denied food. The whole project has been hijacked by Zanu (PF). It is totally unacceptable,” he said.
In Tandi village, notorious war veterans identified as Simon Bandira and Gift Gambiza were spearheading the operation.
