Zimbabwean Athlete Nominated For Top US Award

A Zimbabwean student at Florida State University in the United States of America (US), Ngoni Makusha, has made an amazing splash on the track and field scene in the US, winning both the NCAA National Championships for long jump and for 100 metres, his new event, and breaking Bolt’s college record.

The young Makusha is from Chemhanza Secondary School in rural Seke Communal lands in the Goromonzi West District.

He is one of three athletes nominated for the prestigious Bowerman Award for the Top Athlete in College Sports in the US.

Zimbabweans can now vote for him at www.thebowerman.org before August 14 for him to win the top award in the US.

"Given that the other two contestants are Americans with a much larger constituency, Ngoni Makusha desperately needs our votes," said a spokesman for the athlete.

"Thanks for taking a moment to support an amazingly accomplished Zimbabwean student."
