CRS recently came to the rescue of 34 00 residents who were relying on unprotected sources of water. The CRS repaired pumps and upgraded the water reservoir.
The Sanyati Rural District Council, which is facing serious financial problems, could not provide residents with clean water. This exposed residents to diseases such as cholera and diahorrea.
Sanyati Rural District Council chief, Douglas Muzveba confirmed the assistance from CRS saying the funds they were generating from rates were not enough to sustain their maintenance and upgrading of infrastructure.
“Very little is coming from the bulk of our ratepayers who are farmer,” he said. Villagers interviewed expressed their gratitude for CRS’s help.
“We are happy that we now have access to clean water after a long time. Water is a basic human right. We really thank these NGOs for their support,” said Gabriel Banda, a local resident.
