Inputs politicised

Zanu (PF) has once again politicized the distribution of farming inputs by favouring only their party’s card holders.

“Most employees at the Grain Marketing Board and the Agricultural Extension Services are Zanu (PF) youths recruited from around 2003 soon after graduating in the national youth services also known as Border Gezi Training Centres.

“These are the people compiling the names of beneficiaries of the government input scheme. As a result, the most needy people like orphans and widows, who are perceived to be supporters of the MDC parties, are usually turned away for failing to produce Zanu (PF) party cards,” complained Moses Maphosa, MDC-T councillor for Ward 31 in Bikita.

The Manager for GMB Nyika Depot, only identified as Mr. Mupunga, concurred with Maphosa’s allegations, but was quick to point out that as a parastatal, worker he lacked the political power to deal with Zanu (PF)-aligned chiefs.

A resident, who refused to be named for security reasons, singled out Daniel Mutsauri, a former Zanu (PF) torture base commander at Chikuku Growth point and a member of Zanu (PF)’s District Coordinating Committee, as one who had convened a meeting with headmen and urged them to disqualify perceived MDC supporters.
