The armour of God

What are we doing when we clothe ourselves in the armour of God? We simply clothe ourselves in Christ. The armour of God is Christ in all His majestic fullness. The fullness of Christ is the key to spiritual warfare.

Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). Christ is truth. If we put on truth we put on Christ. If we put on Christ we put on truth.

Christ is our righteousness. Again if we put on Christ we have put on His righteousness for He is the righteousness of God. We are in right standing with God if we put on righteousness. His righteousness covers our heart.

Jesus Christ is the Gospel of Peace. He is the Prince of Peace. The world may know contentment, rest and tranquillity but peace only comes from Jesus. Without a relationship with Christ Jesus, without the knowledge of sins forgiven and an on-going relationship with the Father, we cannot have peace abiding in our hearts. Deep inside there will be unrest and uncertainty, which will only be removed as we come to know the Prince of Peace personally.

Jesus Christ has all faith. God spoke and the worlds came into being. Faith in God is a shield to our hearts and minds. Nothing is too difficult for Him. Faith in God pleases the Father and a pure faith in God is an impenetrable shield around the believer.

Jesus Christ is our salvation and so when we put on the helmet of salvation we put on Christ and our thoughts become conformed to His thoughts. We put on the mind of Christ.

Lastly, as we take up the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God we take up Jesus Christ Himself. Christ is the Living Word of God.

Christ is central and supreme in all things and He is the Head of all principality and power. Christ needs to be central and supreme in the individual believer and in His body the Church. As we get to know Him more and more and allow His fullness to grow and develop in us, we have more of the full armour of God which enables us to stand against the wiles of the enemy.
