Oludamola Osayomi took gold in a time of 10.90 seconds. Fellow Nigerians Blessing Okagbare and Gloria Asonmu won the silver and bronze in 11.01 and 11.26 seconds.
In the final of the men’s 100 metres, Amr Ibraim Seoud came first in a time of 10.20. The silver medal went to Ben Youssef Meite of Ivory Coast, in 10.28, while a hundredth of a second behind him came Obinna Metu of Nigeria, in 10.29.
In the men’s 100 metre hurdles, Algerian Ojhman Lazib won the gold in 13.48 seconds. The silver and bronze went to two more Nigerians, Selim Nurudeen (13.61) and Samuel Okon (13.75).
Yasser Farag of Egypt won the men’s shot put, with a throw of 19.73 metres, comfortably ahead of his nearest rivals, Jaco Engelbrecht and Roelie Potgieter, both of South Africa, who came second and third with throws of 18.89 and 18.68 metres.
Ugandan Annet Negesa took gold in the final of the women’s 800 metres in a time of 2 minutes 1.81 seconds. The silver medal went to Fantu Manedo of Ethiopia (2:03.22) and the bronze to Sylvia Chemtai of Kenya (2:04.16).
In the men’s beach volleyball tournament, Algeria beat Mozambique two sets to one (14-21, 21-19 and 15-13), and Cape Verde beat Kenya also by two sets to one (21-16, 13-21 and 21-15).
In the games played on Tuesday morning, Nigeria beat Algeria two sets to one (21-15, 16-21 and 15-11), while Ghana beat Kenya in straight sets (24-11, 21-14).
In the women’s tournament, Kenya beat Mozambique, two sets to one (22-20, 21-23 and 16-14), while Nigeria beat Algeria also by two sets to one (20-22, 21-8 and 15-11).
On the tennis court, the two Mozambicans still in the men’s singles tournament were eliminated on Tuesday morning. Francisco Mata lost to Salif Kante, in straight sets (6-1, 6.2), and Feliciano dos Santos lost by the same margin to Nigerian Clifford Enosoregbe.
