The local authority town secretary, Sipho Singo, confirmed the development. He said the funding would be channelled towards the procurement of equipment and resuscitating other development projects which were stopped due to lack of funding.
He said following an outbreak of cholera in 2008 which claimed the lives of many people, the World Bank came to the rescue of the town by providing funds for upgrading the aged water and sewer reticulation system.
“We have used part of the funds to procure waste collection vehicles as well to rehabilitate our old sewer and water system,” he said.
