A nation seeking a leader

After the Lord God had delivered Israel from their Egyptian oppressors, Israel was ruled by a series of judges. The time came when the elders demanded their judge, Samuel, to give them a king to rule over them.

Through Samuel the Lord warned the people that they would cry out in anguish because they had rejected his leadership and asked for a King. Saul was anointed king over Israel and went on to disobey God, bringing great grief upon the entire nation. God then commanded Samuel to anoint David, a man after God’s own heart, as king. David went on to slay giants and bring peace to the nation.

Zimbabwe has been much in the same position. We cried out for a leader. Now we want God’s leader, a man after His heart who will do His will.

The Lord God of Israel, using a man after His own heart, brought Goliath down. Zimbabwe needs a Godly leader now, to slay the giants in this land – giants of injustice, fear, division, hatred and violence.

It is time for the Church in Zimbabwe to pray that God, Himself, will raise up a leader, of His own choosing, for our nation. This must have nothing to do with the will of the people and everything to do with the will of God in Christ Jesus. Man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart.

“Oh, Lord, we come before You to cry out for a leader of Your choosing for our nation of Zimbabwe. We cry out for a man after Your own heart, who will walk humbly in Your ways. You know such a man, Lord. A man who walks in a personal and deep relationship with his Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, and one who seeks nothing for himself but only to serve and honour his God, serve his nation with Your wisdom and guidance and one who seeks only to give God the glory in all things. Thank you Father that You hear our cry.”
