Green light for SA chickens

A leading South African chicken company, whose products were banned from Zimbabwe, has been cleared to resume exports.

Supreme Poultry exports were halted two years ago after the Zimbabwean Poultry Association alleged the company was supplying ‘rotten’ chickens. Company officials refuted the allegations.

“Zimbabwean officials who visited our operations in Mafikeng and Tigane have given us the all clear to export our product from these two plants to Zimbabwe,” the company said in a statement.

But there is still a blanket ban on all poultry coming into Zimbabwe as a result of an outbreak of avian influenza in the South African ostrich industry last year.
