Angola appoint new coach ahead of Warriors clash

Angola’s Palancas Negras have named a new coach ahead of their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final qualifying round showdown against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

News coming from Luanda is that the The Black Antelopes as the Angolans are also known have appointed Uruguayan Gustavo Ferrin on a two year deal, replacing Lito Vidigal, who was sacked soon after the 2012 Nations Cup finals in Gabon and the Equatorial Guinea where Angola were eliminated in the first round.

While not much is known of Ferrin, football in Uruguay is on a high and the country’s national team is ranked third on the Fifa Coca Cola world rankings.

While the Warriors’ proposed international friendly match against the Chipolopolo of Zambia is still to be officially confirmed, the Angolans have lined up a friendly match against Mozambique on 15 August , the same day the Warriors are supposed to play Zambia.

Angola and Zimbabwe first meet in Harare during the weekend of 7-9 September before the return leg in Luanda during the weekend of 12-14 October.

The winner of the two legged tie will qualify for the Nations Cup finals to be held in South Africa in January.

Zimbabwe are desperate to beat Angola, having failed to qualify for the Nations Cup in the past six years.
