Tavengwa optimistic

Athlete Sharon Tavengwa (30), one of only two female athletes to represent the country at the London Olympics Games, is confident of holding her own against the world’s best.

“All my competitors are world record-holders and there are athletes who have won the Olympics before. Others are World Championship holders – women who run man’ times, but that will not count. I think I trained well for the event and I am ready to compete.”

She will compete alongside Kirsty Coventry as the only two females in Team Zimbabwe, having qualified after winning the Utrecht Marathon in The Netherlands.
