PSL Round-up

PSL action has a two week break to allow teams to fulfil the Mbada Cup fixtures but it is at the Colliery mine where much activity has happened. Hwange FC who took part in the continental safari this year after having managed a top four PSL finish last season, are dancing with relegation this season.

With only 18 points remaining before the curtain comes down, needs not drop any, or they will play in the lower rung next season. Spokesman Burzil Dube recently announced sweeping changes to the side’s technical team in a bid to preserve their premiership status.

Tenant Chiluba, who has had a series of poor results as the team’s technical director is understood to have thrown in the towel, leaving the club’s former captain and veteran administrator, Nation Dube in charge. Former Under-20 coach Brian Njovu has since been roped in Dube’s assistant.

“We hope these changes will go a long way in improving our game,” said Dube. Despite having had a good finish last year, Hwange lie fifth from bottom on the log, two points shy of closest rivals, WWS Rangers.

Dube still believes that the coalminers will survive relegation. Hardbody might be the second side to have its relegation fate confirmed after struggling Quelaton FC. The Gweru-based side faces all the three title contenders in their last five matches- Shabanie Mine, Highlanders and Dynamos.

In the other two matches, the Godfrey Tamirepi-led team are pitted against Black Mambas and Hwange, who are equally not prepared to lose a point.
