Tagara begs corporate world

Newly-elected National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe president, Tendai Tagara, has called on the corporate world to sponsor the sport, whose future “looks bright”.

Tagara said last week that the association was keen to develop a culture of nurturing talent, something not done properly in the country at the moment. “We must move a step forward and make sure that we complete the work begun by the outgoing president, Joseph Mungwari. I’m going to do my best and develop a culture of nurturing talent,” he said.

“I think the future of local athletes is bright, but lack of sponsorship remains our major problem. The sponsorship we have been getting has just been piece-meal and event-based, so it did not give us a chance to grow.

Tagara is a lecturer at Mutare Polytechnic and was the director of coaching and talent identification for NAAZ for 10 years
