But some have already paid for the Zimbabwe-South Africa identity document. Hundreds of Zimbabweans flocked to a building in Lodium, on the outskirts of Pretoria, during recent months to apply for the document, which can only be officially obtained by those who have legally lived in the SA for five or more years.
“They were made to bring their Zimbabwean identity documents and made to pay R1 500 application fees and R30 for passport photos,” said a home affairs official.
“What should have given a hint is that these people operated from rented offices and not from Home Affairs offices.”
Some applicants are said to have successfully received their fraudulent IDs. When police were called to the scene, the syndicate operators had sniffed their imminent arrest and left.
Gabriel Shumba, chairman of the Zimbabwe Exiles Forum, promised to investigate and give feedback on the alleged scam.
“We cannot allow our people to be used in such a manner when they are trying to make a decent living here,” said the lawyer, who is also a member of the Zimbabwe Solidarity Forum, which works with the SA government on the Zimbabwe Documentation Project.

This people am told are still operating from Pretoria Home Affairs or its a different this. People are paying R300.00 and are told the balance R800 will be paid on collection of documents in 4-6 months time.
A colleague nearly fell prey to this and on Googling we found this article,it seems these people are still operating and Dan’s comment is correct.
