Khumalo extends contract

Long distance runner, Prodigal Khumalo, has extended his contract with Maxed Elite, formerly Mr Price Athletics Club. The deal has earned him the privilege of being the ambassador of one of the company’s sportswear brands.

The Zimbabwean athlete is elated at the development, which saw him recently travel to Asia to help design some of the club’s official apparel for the new season. “My contract will run until December 31 and it is not only a running contract,” said the Durban-based athlete.

Being the 2013 face of Maxed, a Mr Price Sport brand, he was in China last month to design a new Maxed marathon racer and trainers. The apparel will be available in March to the Maxed Elite team and all contracted athletes will be running in the footwear this season.

“The shoe will be available at all Mr Price Sport shops. It is a proper technical shoe and affordable compared to other brands in the market,” added Khumalo.

The 30-year-old, who had a forgettable 2012, is determined to make up for lost time this season and has already won gold, after coming first at the season-opening Kearsney Striders Half Marathon in Durban last week.

“I had a good start by winning one of the toughest races in South Africa for the third time in a row. I am prone to injuries, but this time round, I am injury-free and this race was my fitness tester,” Khumalo said.

He has a busy schedule ahead, starting with the Zululand Marathon in March, the Comrades Marathon, scheduled for June and World 50km Champs in September.
