Manicaland hosts Coca-cola tourney

Manicaland will this year host the national finals of the Copa Coca-Cola Under-16 schools soccer tournament.

“We have a choice of Rusape, Nyanga, Chimanimani and Chipinge as the towns that might host the finals,” said Ananias Mazonza, head of the National Associations of School Heads’ soccer. “We just wanted to make it more democratic and get to hear what the stakeholders in the province thought.”

However, he thought Nyanga would be the most ideal venue, with its numerous accommodation choices for both the players and dignitaries.

“The dates for the district, provincial and national finals will be released after the January 25 meeting. I think that is also when we will able to tell where exactly we will host the tournament in Manicaland,” he said.

The national finals of this high school soccer tournament were held in the resort area of Victoria Falls last year, in which Matabeleland South’s Mzingwane High School defied the odds to lift the trophy after they outplayed favourites, Pamushana in the final.

Marange High Under-16 boys’ team and Goko High School Under-17 girl’s team represented Manicaland.
