He recently took us through his best choices.
My Best Team
That Bulawayo club, Eagles, played the most entertaining brand of football in the country and produced great players like Rahman Gumbo and Boy Ndlovu.
My Best Stadium
There are two stadiums – Barbourfields in Bulawayo, which has a good turf and always gave us a electrifying environment when we played against Highlanders and the National stadium, our slaughter house, especially on cup games.
My Best Midfield Partner
I liked my partnership with David Mandigora, Kennedy Jele and Clayton Munemo. The understanding we had was unbelievable. We demolished many teams that way.
My Most Memorable Game
When we beat Black Rhinos 2-0 in a league match in 1985, Moses Chunga and I were on top of our game. Chunga created the second goal, scored by Kennedy Jele. The second game was in the 1986 Zifa Cup final against, when again, beat Rhinos 1-0 through Max Makanza’s solitary goal at the National stadium. I had just come from a month-long absence from a knee injury.
My Best Ever Zimbabwean Players
There are many who produced sterling performances during their playing days and had they to be assembled in one team, they would have won any cup on offer, including the Africa Cup of nations or Champions league. Moses Chunga, Willard Khumalo, Peter Ndlovu, Stix Mutizwa, Boy Ndlovu and Joel Shambo.
My Toughest Opponent
All midfielders from Rio Tinto gave me a nightmare in football. They were quick, strong and great ball distributors.
My Best Ever African Footballer
There are a couple of them starting with our own icon, Peter Ndlovu – a complete player and a marvel to watch. Kalusha Bwalya the Zambian, former world footballer George Weah from Liberia and the Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o.
