Dynamos in driving seat

Dynamos are in the driving seat ahead of the second leg of the Caf Champions League preliminary round after thumping Correctional Services of Lesotho 3-0 at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

The popular Harare club which is bidding to reach the mini league stage for the first time after four years of failure got their goals from stand-in captain Tawanda Muparati, Partson Jaure and Ugandan import Barbon Zirutuswa to give themselves a commanding lead.

Although they will be playing the return leg away from home in two weeks’ time, Dynamos are now odds-on favourites to reach the first round of which they will play either Etihad of Libya or Birzetin of Tunisia.

The 1998 Africa Champions League finalists and semi-finalists ten years later could have come out with a bagful of goals had it not been for Muparati who missed easy-to-score chances.

That aside. coach Calisto Pasuwa was still satisfied with his team’s overall performance, saying they will be going to Maseru not to defend their lead but to add to the tally they already have.

Pasuwa, who was part of the Dynamos side that reached the final in 1998, said they were looking past Correctional Services and hoped to book a date against reigning Africa champions Al Ahly of Egypt whom they will meet should they go past the first round.

Dynamos have been relegated to play in the preliminary round after a poor show in the past four years including a 7-1 aggregate thumping at the hands of former Africa champions, Esperance of Tunisia last year.

Teams with a good playing history in African football do not play in the preliminary round but start from the first round.
