Justice for looters: Biti

When MDC is voted into power, those who looted natural resources and state coffers will be brought to justice, MDC-T Secretary General Tendai Biti said recently.

Biti told party supporters at a rally held at Msasa last Saturday that an MDC government would audit all diamond mining activity. “These people have become filthy rich out of diamond and laundering of other natural resources. They will be brought to account the moment MDC gets into office.”

Biti said some thugs in government entered scandalous business partnerships under the so-called indigenisation policy which was benefitting only the elite.

He said the indigenisation project would not benefit the poor majority but those already rich.

“It is a facility for high profile thieves. MDC is very clear on suspicious business ventures entered between Zanu (PF) government and its partners. Our government will revisit all these agreements and take appropriate action. These are incestuous agreements that will be nullified.”

The MP said the government did not benefit from the activities of companies such as Anjin and Mbada Diamonds.

He said unlike Zanu (PF), which scared off investors, MDC would adopt a foreign direct investment policy whereby foreign companies would invest in the Zimbabwe budget. The money would be used to create jobs, improve health and education facilities, road networks and shelter.

“Mugabe and Zanu (PF) are in a fix. We have sealed off previous escape routes. We are done with SADC, AU and the UN. All the regional, continental and international bodies want free and fair elections in Zimbabwe so this time around things will come right,” Biti warned Mugabe and Zanu (PF).

He said MDC was formed as a result of Zanu (PF)’s glaring failures.

“Had Zanu (PF) not failed to manage the economy MDC would not have been formed.”

Analysts have accused Zanu (PF) of having a mentality that national wealth and natural resources are part of heritage and not an epitome for economic development.
