Mhandu of Mamunyadza High School in Buhera and Dangirwa, from Makoni district, made it after they came second and third respectively in the qualifying round of the junior women’s 6km race held in Kwekwe last week. They will join their counterparts from other provinces to make up the Zimbabwean contingent.
Manicaland Athletics Board chairman, Joshua “Zesa” Matume, said the province would have produced more athletes for the Lesotho meet, had it not been for the unavailability of some of their best runners.
“When we travelled to Kwekwe, we did not have all our athletes because the qualifiers clashed with the National Association of Schools Heads’ zonal track and field competitions, which saw schools withdraw their athletes, but we are happy that two of them managed to qualify,” said Matume.
