The country’s three mobile phone services providers Econet, Telecel and NetOne have all come up with services which seem to be paying off.
Analyst, Dzika Danha, said mobile sim penetration had reached 94% due to promotions. For example, after Econet’s ‘Buddie Zone’ promotion its subscriber base increased significantly.
“In that same period, however, Telecel registered 17 percent growth,” Danha said. “Econet”s mobile money transfer system, Ecocash has seen impressive growth with 25% of the subscriber base using the service from 16 percent in 2012.”
Danha warned that fees and regulations associated with license renewal in 2013 may hold Econet back.
