I am an ambitious young woman who works with mostly men in at my company. I applied for a vacant post that the management advertised for everyone to apply. It was a senior position and everyone looked forward to the promotion. I feel that I did not get the post because I am the only woman and they don’t believe in me. I am always hurt when I get to be discriminated like that. What do I do for them to consider a gender balance? – Patricia
Dear Patricia
I don’t want you to always feel that you have been discriminated in everything. If you feed your mind with that, that is exactly what you are always going to see.
Never consider yourself as a woman whenever faced with a task. Consider yourself as a human being and know that you are capable of doing anything you commit yourself to do.
Make sure that you qualify for any post you apply for before you think that you have been discriminated. Don’t take everything personally to be a gender issue. I am sure your management would be ashamed to appoint someone to a post for which you have so much qualification – and snub you just because you are a woman.
Prove yourself to be a hardworking employee. It feels good to know that you have qualified and earned something because you know you deserve it not because you are a woman.
Their playing small on you should give you the courage to do better in life and prove them wrong, that you are the only woman there but you can also be the only one who is much more educated and experienced in your field. – Aunty Lisa
