When the Zimbabwe Documentation Programme was rolled out two years ago, some Zimbabweans applied with passports that were nearing their expiration date and had feared they could lose the remaining lifespan of their permits.
“It’s very sad that a national institution like DHA is so incompetent. I applied for my first permit transfer on 15th of January 2012 nothing came out of it and I went there more than five times last year without success. This year my first follow-up was done on the 21st of February and nothing has come out of it so far. Home Affairs officials keep telling the same old tiring story of waiting. It’s been more than a year while trying to have this permit transfer and I think Zimbabweans should take to the streets and demand their rights,” said a fuming Lean Temera. George Temera said he was losing hope with Home Affairs.
“I did my first permit transfer application at Harrison Offices in April last year. I have gone there more than 10 times without luck and I am slowly giving up as nothing is coming out of it. I think the best way is for the Minister of Home Affairs to interfere because we can’t go on like this,” he added.
Nothabo Ngulube highlighted that she had been visiting Home Affairs offices in the last six months without luck. “There is no transparency. They keep telling me stories after stories, now I am confused and stuck,” said Ngulube.
However, a few weeks ago the DHA official, Ronney Marhule told The Zimbabwean that the permit transfer process takes a maximum period of 30 days.
