Chitake bounces back

Long-distance runner, Shepherd Chitake, has resumed light training, following a road accident that broke one of his collarbones. He has been out of action since October last year, when he was hit by a car during a cross country race.

“That accident came as a blow and I had initially thought that would be the end of my career, but God had other plans for me. With Him, nothing is impossible and now I am glad to be back readying myself for the track,” said the 32-year-old Maxed Athletics Club star.

“I am feeling much better now. It has been a very difficult time for me, but I had to keep fighting and that looks to have done the trick. In a few months’ time, I will be back on the track and ready to win awards.” He challenged athletics authorities to provide enough protection to athletes during races to avoid such freak accidents as happened to him. “Had things been handled properly in all races, the mishap that befell me would been avoided.”
