The low density suburb will have stands measuring 400 square metres each, while the high density section stands will be 200 square meters. Mayor Teddious Chimombe said servicing of the stands would be completed by the end of this year.
“We will continue in our endeavours to make sure that everyone who wants to build a house can do so,” said Chimombe. He reiterated that the councillors also took a firm decision that all council employees who do not own houses should have the first preference. “We have about 1,400 council employees. Of these, council decided 1,000 should be allowed to acquire residential stands at the new suburbs,” said Chimombe.
The development comes at a time when local building society FBC has just built 200 housing units. If council succeeds in parcelling out the stands, the two projects will become the biggest in the last decade.
