Youth must come to the party: Dube

The MDC-T Youth Assembly chairman for South Africa, Giyani Dube, recently welcomed the party’s inclusion of many members of the assembly in the race to represent the party in forthcoming general elections, but warned that those who make it through should do so on merit.

Dube, recently endorsed by the National Council to stand against Themba Nyathi, Victor Mapungwana and the incumbent Sandla Khumalo for the Mpopoma constituency, said people should not be voted for just because they are young, but because they have what it takes to represent both the party and their constituencies.

“I am very happy, as one of the party’s youth leaders, to see that many of my colleagues will stand in the primaries and get a chance to fight for parliamentary seats, but I also believe that whoever gets the nod should have what it takes to play an ambassadorial role for the development of their constituencies, their regions and the country as a whole. That is what being an MP is all about, making a change for the better. Zimbabweans have suffered for too long to be burdened with another bunch of redundant MPs,” said Dube.

Dube, who expressed confidence in landing the ticket to represent the party after the April 20 primaries, said he would support whoever wins ahead of him, should he lose out.

“This is not the first contest I have entered within the party and it is not an individual fight, but a process to find the best candidate to represent the party. So whoever gets the nod needs to get the support of those who miss out because it means they are the best out of the crop,” he said.

“The most important thing is to develop our country and a worthy representative is what we need for each constituency. Zimbabwe needs to go forward and the MDC-T is the only party that can deliver that promise.
