Swedish information investment

Sweden is interested in exploring opportunities in the local information and communications technology sector, according to Anna Buhré Kervefors, spokesperson of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kervefors told The Zimbabwean Sweden would tour Zimbabwe next year. The delegation will be comprised of government representatives and members of the private sector.

Discussions will mainly be related to opportunities in the information and communications technology sector, which is earmarked to contribute immensely to the development of the region and the continent as a whole. Africa is rated among the fastest-growing ICT markets in the world.

“The high level delegation relates to a wider information and communication technology venture in Sub-Saharan Africa, a joint two-year project by Business Sweden, Ericsson and the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The programme aims to share knowledge and increase collaboration and trade between key countries and Sweden in order to strengthen the African ICT sector,” Kervefors said.

Workshops and seminars will be hosted in 10 African countries, among them Zimbabwe, in the coming two years. In Zimbabwe, the seminar is most likely to take place during the second half of 2014.

While relations between Zimbabwe and most of Europe have been strained over the last few years, Sweden has remained a developmental partner. The country has contributed about $40 million annually in development and relief initiatives since 2000.
