The MDC-T South African Youth Assembly launched the party’s ‘Tell Five People’ campaign strategy this weekend at Jumbo in Crown Mines in a bid to mobilise people to register to vote. “Our fellow countrymen should understand that we are not here to stay,” said Butholezwe Nyathi, the assembly’s acting Deputy Secretary.

“We have to solve our problems back home and that can be only achieved by urging five people you know to register to vote. We are tired of living like animals here. Now is the time. Wherever you are attending school, you need to push all your friends to register to vote,” he added.

The deputy Provincial Chairman, Juma Ulete, urged youths to unite. “Nothing conquers unity. That is why Zanu (PF) tries to divide people – when there is confusion they continue to destroy the country. We have to come together as one – despite our political affiliation. Our common enemy is Zanu (PF), let’s not be confused by pointing fingers at each other. Our eyes must remain on the ball – not on man,” he said.

Analyst Masimba Dube said “These are positive signs of change. If parents cooperate and urge their teenage children who are first time voters to register to vote, then a new Zimbabwe will be achieved. We need political leaders to continue engaging young people to understand the dynamics of Zimbabweans politics.”
