Club chief executive officer, Stanley Matthews, ended speculation on the future of the former Zimbabwe national team defender. Media reports and rumours had it that Tembo’s future hung in the balance, after Gavin Hunt ditched the club in May to join Bidvest Wits.
“Kaitano will remain at the club for as long as I am at the helm. Whether he stays on as an assistant coach is for the new coach (Cavin Johnson) to decide,” said Matthews. “We have vibrant development structures. The junior team consistently supplies the first team with talented players. That is largely thanks to Tembo, who has an eye for talent. If the head coach decides he needs his own assistant, then Tembo will have a place in the development structures,” added Matthews.
Tembo was on the bench alongside Johnson when the former Absa Premiership champions beat visiting Manchester City 2-0 in a Nelson Mandela Invitational game at the weekend.
