Zimbabwe were the most dominant force in the game but goals from Alex Ngonga and Kabase Chongo gave the Chipolopolo the title and their fourth Cosafa Castle Cup title since the tournament was introduced in 1997.
Even the Zambia coach Herve Renard admitted Zimbabwe were far much the better side but still they equal the record of four championships which the Warriors have after winning in 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2009.
Zimbabwe’s dominance of the game was even confirmed by the fact that the man of the match award went to Zimbabwe’s Dynamos midfielder Devon Chafa.
Ironically, the two teams met in the final in Harare in 2009 with the Warriors winning 3-1 but this time it was the chance for the Chipolopolo to get the favour of their supporters.
Questions, however, are being raised as to why coach Klaus Dieter Pagels decided to rest his most mobile player Ronald Chitiyo for Last Chibwiro. Only for him to substitute Chibwiro for Chitiyo.
When Chitiyo came analyst says there was more mobility in the Zimbabwean game. But that is now history. The Warriors now focus their attention to the African Nations Championship in which they are travelling to Mauritius this weekend for their first round qualifier.
Coincidentally, the Warriors will meet the winner between Zambia and Botswana to guarantee their play at the African Nations Cup finals to be held in South Africa between January and February.
