Double blow for Chipere

First he failed to defend his 2012 gold medal in the Nelson Mandela Day race due to an unidentified problem that forced him to bow out after just 13 kilometres.

Chipere.
Chipere.

Last weekend he was eying the Township to Township Marathon he won two years ago, but came in 11th place, again due to the nagging injury.

This is the sad story of veteran long distance runner, Brighton Chipere, who has expressed disappointment and dubbed it a ‘double blow’ to his career.

“I thought I was going to do better than how I performed, but it was dismal,” said a dejected Chipere. Maybe I trained too much for the race and coming from an injury, that could have been a wrong strategy. I am back in training and remain confident that after two weeks I will bounce back. This is the worse experience of my life and hope it won’t happen again.”
