Veteran long distance runner, Chrispen Jera, has bounced back following a left knee injury he sustained three months ago. Jera last featured in the Comrades Marathon race, where he did not perform well this year.

“I have healed and I am ready to run again,” said Jera. “It’s always sad to be out on injury as it takes you back to square one. I managed to fight hard so I compete again and will be looking and choosing races to participate in before end of the year. I am just happy that now I can run again. Since my last race at Comrades Marathon I have never participated in any race. I was hoping for at least few medals but the injury cost me a lot as I had targeted a lot of races in the last quarter season of the year.”

Meanwhile, Jera has urged the Zimbabwe Athletics mother body to help promote athletics at grassroots level. “We need serious and knowledgeable national athletics administrators, who will go down to the grassroots level and start promoting the sport.

They should work with primary schools and make sure they maintain and nurture talent identified for the country to prosper at international level. I am very confident that if athletics is considered at grassroots level we will compete with the likes of Kenya in terms of success in the sport,” he added.
