The campaign dubbed "Vote Cde Mngangagwa for President 2014 Zanu Congress" is aimed at side-lining Mnangagwa from the succession race.
"Kasukuwere believes he is clever and we are very much aware that he the one sponsoring the fliers and posters distributed countrywide urging people to support Mngangagwa for president while side-lining and insulting Mugabe. The fliers and posters portray Mnangagwa as a tribalist. This is only aimed at creating a rift between Mnangagwa and Mugabe so that Muchinguri and Moyo appear as genuine cadres supporting the president.
“As a group we call upon Kasukuwere to apologise to the nation and party for doing that before we take action against him. We have been working with him and we are very much aware of his tactics, how he uses people's names. We are aware that there is a secret relationship between Moyo and Kasukuwere as they seek to take over leadership of the party. We will block all of them from achieving their goals unconstitutionally. We are aware that Kasukuwere wants to be the next secretary for security in the party with Moyo aiming at chairmanship," said Eliard Mhangami, the group's chairperson.
The group also stated that they were considering legal action to compel the Sunday Mail to prove its claims that some senior party officials including Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa and ousted party spokesperson Rugare Gumbo were plotting to assassinate Mugabe and attempt to overthrow the legitimate government.
Mujuru has formally denied the allegations and plans legal action against the Sunday Mail.
"I regret that certain persons have elected to make false, unsubstantiated, malicious, defamatory and irresponsible statements about me, solely for the purpose of engineering their widespread publication in all forms of media across the world , and bringing Zanu (PF), the government and the President into disrepute. I deny any and all the allegations of treason, corruption, incompetence, and misuse of public office being routinely made against me in The Herald and Sunday Mail Newspapers.
"I have briefed my legal practitioners to take the necessary steps, at law, to restore my good reputation, political standing and dignity. I stand ready to defend myself before the Party, and in any court of law on any of the allegations made against me, at any time, in accordance with the laws of Zimbabwe," said Mujuru in a press statement earlier this week.
Vowing not to throw in the towel despite the vicious attacks against her, Mujuru said "No amount of malicious, hurtful and false statements about me, my late husband, my family, children , associates or business interests (real or imagined) can deter me from the mission at hand, that is to assist His Excellency President R G Mugabe in driving the social and economic programmes of his government to successful fruition.”
