I am a young man who has just started work with a local company and it is struggling badly to pay us our salaries and I am so stressed. I want to gain experience in my industry since I have graduated, I am very passionate about what I do and I want to build a great career. I am recently married and my wife and I are expecting our first child in seven months’ time. With events at work I am worried how I will manage. Please advise me. – Jerry
Dear Jerry
Yes you are passionate about what you do, but as much as we want our passion to drive what we do and not care much about the financial rewards, it is not realistic for responsible people like you. Passion alone does not pay the bills and you come back home to face your responsibilities waiting.
You need to start looking for a job elsewhere. Do not quit where you – my rule is always that you get another job before giving up your present one. You need to be constantly on the lookout for new opportunities and be ready to make a move. Soon your child will be here and you need to prepare yourselves financially to be able to provide for that. Use your current employers as a stepping stone to go places. – Aunty Lisa
