The project is about the need to level borders and prejudice that exist between continents and nations but also between individuals, peoples and different cultures.

Every year there’s a different focus, for 2015 this will be the problem of ‘Bastion Europe’, diaspora and refugees.

One of the participants, Dutch artist Paul Bogaert, has been a voluntary cartoonist for The Zimbabwean since its inception 10 years ago, after meeting editor Wilf Mbanga in Tilburg when he was a guest at the City of Refuge in 2004.

“In our opinion the mental borders that exist between the ordinary people of Zimbabwe and its leaders would fit in very well in our project,” said Bogaert. He commended the newspaper for its vigorous defence of freedom of expression for the people of Zimbabwe over the past decade.

The exhibition showcases 21 of the more than 1,000 cartoon prints made by Bogaert over the years, as well as 20 pages of the newspaper. It coincides with The Zimbabwean’s 10th anniversary.
