Embarrassing truth

Dear Aunty Lisa

I am a mother of triplet boys aged two and they are a handful. I am tense all the time because I am under pressure to handle them. There is a Shona phrase that says that an elephant does not get tired carrying its horns, basically meaning that a mother or parent won’t fail to handle her own children.

But the embarrassing truth with me is that I am failing to cope. I thought being a full-time mother would make me handle them well but their screaming and running in the house gets to me most of the time. I am afraid my husband is the one suffering the bad moods I am constantly in. Am I failing as a mother and wife? – Triple Troubled

Dear Triple Troubled

One thing I want to tell you my dear is never try to be a SuperMum because that is impossible. Getting tense because of your three boys is pretty normal. At that age they are very active, experimenting with this and that and needing maximum supervision. Three of them at that age are too much for one person to handle comfortably, you would surely go nuts by the end of the day.

The worse part of it is that because you are their mother they will whine a lot with you. You would be surprised that another person would spend a whole day with them without much hassle. Look for someone to help you with housework and the kids. You are not a failure; get someone to deal with their naughty side. – Aunty Lisa
