Ruvimbo Mutetwa Makarati , 14, who was severely wounded in an arson attack at the family home in Epworth on April 19, 2013, was driven to Mutendi Secondary Boarding School by Augustine Mututu, the House of Hope programs coordinator, last week.
“Though we did not get donor assistance, as an organisation we managed to place Ruvimbo in boarding school as we had always desired. We wanted to give her a special treat of her life by providing her the opportunity to learn at a competitive boarding school. She was in high spirits when she left,” said the founder and director, Regina Dururu-Okorafo.
Although Ruvimbo did not pass well at grade seven due to circumstances beyond her control, Mutendi had accepted her on compassionate grounds, believing she had the potential to adjust and excel like other children at the school.
Ruvimbo’s two sisters, Mellisa ,9, and Gamuchirai Vanessa Gohodza, 15, who also survived the attack, were taken to South Africa by House of Hope and Child of Fire of South Africa for extensive two year corrective surgery.
The attack by a jilted ex-boyfriend to Ruvimbo’s mother Lorraine claimed her live and three others.
