Mnangagwa’s wife gets hubby’s parly reigns as other candidates “withdraw”

Auxillia Mnangagwa, wife to first VP Emmerson Mnangagwa, has finally been given the nod to represent Zanu (PF) in the Chirumanzu-Zibagwe by-election ahead of eldest son Emmerson Jr, who had earlier been tipped to take over the seat.

Zanu (PF)’s Midlands provincial commissar for women, Violet Nhare, together with deputy national secretary for transport in the youth league, Erasmus Chaya, who had also earlier submitted their CVs for consideration to stand, pulled out of the contest at the close of the party’s deadline for the exercise today.

The developments mean Zanu (PF) will not go for primary election because the VP’s wife is now officially uncontested.

Zanu PF Midlands spokesperson Cornelius Mpereri said the VP’s wife has capacity to represent the party in parliament because of her relationship with Mnangagwa.

"Two comrades withdrew. So this means we will no longer hold primary elections because we have a sole candidate," he said.

He said that the party is now awaiting the confirmation of Auxillia's candidature by the Nomination Court which seats on January 29.

Sources however told The Zimbabwean that the other candidates who are said to have withdrawn, were actually forced to do so.

Auxillia Mnangagwa is already a senator for Kwekwe-Chirumanzu and it remains to be seen if Zec will nominate her to contest for the lower house seat and double in the two positions if she goes on to win the election that formations of the MDC say they will boycott due to absence of electoral reforms enshrined in the constitution.
