Established in 2010 by a group of parents at Kidzcan, the association’s vision is to support and inform parents about how best to care for children with cancer.

The pilot project is expected to take off soon and will be situated at the Lions Club Harare City premises.

Children undergoing cancer therapy will be provided with a special diet to minimise the negative impact of some foods on cancer and diseases.

Bigboy Madzivanzira, the national secretary, says that while doctors play a role by providing treatment, parents could complement this effort by administering the correct diet to affected children. “The diet juice will be availed to affected parents and the facility will be run by volunteers,” said Madzivanzira.

It is estimated that the juice blending cost will be $150. Initially the project will need two machines, estimated at $1,000, to process fresh vegetables and fruits sourced from the local market. In order to sustain the project, support in cash and kind is being sought from private companies and other well-wishers.

The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe attributes the high prevalence of cancer cases to bad diet choices by the majority of the country’s population.
