Chatara was reprimanded by Roshan Mahanama of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, after he pleaded guilty to breaching Article 2.1.8, that relates to ‘conduct contrary to the spirit of the game’.

The incident happened in the 50th over of the West Indies innings when Chatara bowled a second consecutive high full-pitched ball to Chris Gayle, after being given a first and final warning by on-field umpire Ian Gould after his previous delivery. The fast bowler was stopped from bowling and reported to the ICC Match Referee, as is required under Clause 42.4.2 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 playing conditions, relating to Dangerous and Unfair Bowling.

Explaining his decision, Mr Mahanama said: “In determining the sanction, I took into account the mitigating factor of the wet ball which could have resulted in the bowler not being able to have complete control of the deliveries.”

The charge was laid by on-field umpires Steve Davis and Ian Gould, third umpire Ranmore Martinesz and fourth umpire Richard Kettleborough.

All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and/or a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee.
