De Jonge overlooked

Zimbabwe’s Brendon De Jonge will rue the slip at the US PGA Vaspar Championship, as he has not been considered for the 2015 Arnold Palmer Invitational, which tees off in Florida on Thursday.

De Jonge is not among the 100 players selected for the event nor is he among the 10 alternatives that have been placed on standby, as the best in the world gather for one of the most prestigious tournaments on the PGA Tour.

Some of the top finishers in the Vaspar Championships – Alex Ceija, Henrik Stensen and Sean O’Hara – will all be on course for the $6.3 million tournament, for which the winner is guaranteed close to $1.2 million.

At the moment, De Jonge is placed 31st on the PGA Tour top money earners for the season, with a total of $89 824 794, a huge drop – having been in sixth place at the start of the year. His total career earnings are $11 484 581. His world ranking has also plummeted, as he is now placed 86th in the world, having at one time reached a career high of 58.

He now has to work his ranking up, as any further slip ups will throw him out of the top 100 and see him lose direct entry into major competitions.
