Diaspora unity in Maleme solidarity rally

Zimbabwean opposition political parties met in Johannesburg on Sunday and sounded a warning to Zanu (PF) over its continuing land grabs.

The meeting, organised by Zapu, was attended by the MDC-Renewal, the MDC led by Welshman Ncube and the Mthwakazi Liberation Front, who all took turns to lambaste President Robert Mugabe’s ongoing attempts to create a black bourgeoisie out of top members of his party and security commanders at the expense of the general populace.

The meeting, attended by hundreds of people, was in solidarity with the people of Matabeleland South, who recently succeeded in repelling a top CIO spy, Rodney Mashingaidze from taking over Maleme farm – a source of livelihood for dozens of villagers.

Future Msebele, the Youth Front national Chairman, warned Zanu of the dangers that lay ahead if that party continued to ignore the “signs of the times”.

"The revolution has started in Zimbabwe and Zanu will pay the price of not being able to read the signs,” he said. “Last week, some corrupt police officers were beaten up by taxi drivers in Bulawayo, while our MDC-T comrades showed how people’s power can defeat an arm of the barbaric regime in Harare, after some cops tried to stop a solidarity march for captured human rights activist Itai Dzamara. The villagers in Maleme have set a precedent that when ordinary people join hands, nothing is impossible.”
