Last kicks of dying horse says MDC-T

Zanu (PF) discrimination against MDC-T members in the distribution of agricultural inputs signals the last kicks of a dying horse, says party spokesperson Obert Gutu.

He was responding to questions by The Zimbabwean following reports that MDC and former vice President Joice Mujuru’s symphathisers were denied access to fertiliser distributed to villagers in Chimanimani West last week.

Out of the 23 wards in Chimanimani, ward 20 was the only one won by the opposition – MDC-T councillor Itai Chinhete.

“We are aware that Zanu (PF) wants to cause misery among our supporters for voting MDC-T. We continue to receive complaints from our supporters across the country that they are being denied the inputs distributed by the GMB. We are aware that these are last kicks of a dying horse,” Gutu said.

Marshal Marwa, MDC-T youth chairperson for Chimanimani west, said the initial list of intended beneficiaries was amended at the distribution point as suspected MDC followers were deleted. Villagers sympathetic to Mujuru were also discriminated against.

Sources identified Zanu (PF) members Mubuso Chinguno and Crossly Mugondi as the perpetrators of the discriminate input distribution. “MDC supporters forced a brief stoppage of the distribution which only proceeded after police threatened to arrest them for unruly behaviour,” said the source.

Recently, MDC-T Mashonaland East organiser, Godfrey Mutize, stood up and challenged partisan distribution of fertiliser by Zanu (PF) and local government officials at Chipfunde Village, Mtawatawa in Mashonaland East.

Zanu (PF) insists that the presidential inputs scheme was not discriminatory but eye-witness reports on the ground suggest otherwise.
