
She had joined a long list of Zanu (PF) bigwigs, among them army generals, in controversially getting hunting leases that threatened the survival of the wildlife industry.
Speaking to supporters following his appointment as provincial affairs minister Mahofa said she will deal with all outstanding land issues including the Save Valley.
“We are going to make sure that we indigenise the Save Valley and let our people benefit from this wildlife industry,” Mahofa told party supporters in Masvingo after her appointment.
“Our predecessors had been linked to a series of corrupt activities among them protecting white farmer interests. I am going to personally make sure that the Save Valley issue is put to rest by making sure that we all get a piece of this cake,” she said.
Poaching has reached alarming level sin the sanctuary with endangered species like the rhino facing extinction. Sources said efforts to curb poaching were being hampered by the perimeter fence, which remains vandalised and no efforts are being made to repair it.
Clive Stockhill, one of the operators in trouble sanctuary, said at least $4,5 million was needed to rehabilitate the fences.
