The race begins in Pretoria, goes through Centurion rugby club and ends at Johannesburg’s Melrose Golf Club. It is scheduled to take place on September 27 and will be Chinyanga’s career debut ultra-marathon, as he has previously participated only in mini and half marathons.
“I have already started training as I aim to conquer in my first ever ultra-marathon race,†said Chinyanga. “I want to win it for my country. I am enjoying my training and am very happy that so far I do not have any injury.â€
Chinyanga’s last race was in May, when he ended in third position in the Jeck Mickler race. The Zimbabwean has previously won the Elands Valley Challenge 42km race, the annual Bronkhorstspruit 32km race, Mazda Zoom Zoom Half and the Deloitte Pretoria Marathon.
“It will be my 25th birthday next month and I would be pleased to make my day a great one by winning this marathon,†he said. The Bonitas-sponsored Marathon is an annual event that comprises a 21.1km half marathon, 10km family fun race and the 50km ultra-marathon.
