Tsvangirai welcomes Mujuru entry

Early this week, Mujuru, a veteran of the liberation war against colonial rule and member of Zanu (PF) since her teenage days, launched political-economic blueprint that she said was meant to bring prosperity to Zimbabwe which has suffered a long drawn crisis.

She is set to lead the People First (PF) movement, a political formation that emerge following the expulsion of Mujuru, President Robert Mugabe’s former deputy, and scores of ex-Zanu (PF) heavyweights who were accused of plotting to remove the ruling party leader from power.
The policy document, Blueprint to Unlock Investment and Leverage Development (BUILD), is seen as Mujuru’s clearest sign since her expulsion that she intended to fight Mugabe as an opposition leader.
“There has been a lot of speculation on the proper position of President Morgan Tsvangirai regarding the entrance of former Vice President Joice Mujuru into the political fray as a fellow opposition leader.

“Firstly, President Tsvangirai’s position regarding the whole issue is that the bold step taken by Amai Mujuru to finally and completely break ranks with Zanu (PF) confirms the inevitable demise of Zanu (PF),” said Tsvangirai’s spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka in a statement.

“For us, the fact that liberation struggle icons have joined the opposition in articulating what Zimbabweans have been hoping for all these years is indeed a breath of fresh air.
“With the majority of Zimbabweans gearing for a new beginning, this week’s developments confirm that there is hope indeed for the future,” said Tamborinyoka.

He added that MDC-T was “heartened by her (Mujuru’s) realisation that the opposition has been right all along that the crisis in the country has been about leadership, corruption and a bad governance culture by those in the stewardship of the State.”

He said the main opposition party felt vindicated by Mujuru’s acknowledgement in the BUILD document that there was need for a new direction for Zimbabwe.
