Zanele Moyo‚ a student at the University of Cape Town‚ was found dead at her off campus apartment last month.
Motsoaledi also met his Zimbabwean counterpart David Parirenyatwa on Thursday to discuss “the puzzles around the unfortunate death†of Zanele, after which they released a joint statement on how they would resolve the matter.
The statement said the case was being dealt with at “the most senior ministerial state†because of “problems and confusion encountered thus far†in the investigation.
“The issues discussed were pertaining to concerns surrounding the events of the investigation and the manner in which the post mortem was handled‚†the statement said.
“To expedite and take the matter to its finalityâ€â€š it was agreed that a process be set up between the health ministry in SA and Zimbabwean counterparts‚ with the help of relevant authorities and experts from both countriesâ€.
This will entail “a review of the investigation and the progress made to date‚ post mortem procedures and conclusions‚ (and) the repatriation of the outstanding remainsâ€.
Previous reports have suggested that after a postmortem was carried out in South Africa, Zanele’s body was repatriated with her heart missing.
