Denied the existence of G40 faction … Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo

The G40 faction reportedly consists of higher education minister Jonathan Moyo, local government minister Saviour Kasukuwere and indigenisation minister Patrick Zhuwao-all of who are said to be fighting First Lady Grace Mugabe’s corner in the succession race against Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mutsvangwa reportedly belongs to the Mnangagwa faction.

On Tuesday, Mutsvangwa told a war veterans emergency meeting in Harare that Moyo was indoctrinated by his US professors who instilled in him anti-Zanu PF believes and values such as the ‘regime change agenda’.

He accused Moyo of bringing into the party new ideas that he acquired from the west whom he said are traditional enemies of the ruling party and are pushing for regime change in Zimbabwe.

The war vets minister said the ruling party ideology was borne out of the liberation struggle and bloodshed and that had to be respected.

“They (G40) are paying reporters to write about their new ideas saying they want a new ideology. To them, the ideology that was used in the war of liberation should be dumped. They say we now want a new one; we want to push for a new ideology,” said Mutsvangwa.

“Where did you get that ideology from? When they taught you that G40 ideology, were there any Zimbabweans with you there professor?”

Mutsvangwa was responding to an article that was published by NewZimbabwe.com early this week in which Moyo said he was the first person to use the phrase ‘Generation 40’ in his article published in August 20I1 by The Sunday Mail newspaper.

Moyo said a few days before the 2011 Heroes Day commemorations he argued in the article that generally when it comes to the social economic transformation of a country such as Zimbabwe, young people should be at the forefront of that exercise.

“And in particular this was in light of the implementation of the indigenisation and economic empowerment programme especially in 2011 which was really targeting young people and that its success depended on its capacity to empower that particular group of people,” said Moyo.

Moyo also denied the existence of the G40 faction, saying the ruling party has never known any faction in its history.

Mutsvangwa was recently ousted as national war veterans chairman but says he is still in charge following a “mini coup” last Friday by members linked to the G40 faction under the strategic direction of Manicaland resident minister Mandi Chimene.

His rant against American ideology comes a few months after details of his clash with presidential spokesperson George Charamba showed that some Zanu PF members are wondering why Mutsvangwa was not included in the US and EU sanctions list.

Recently, Mutsvangwa claimed that Moyo was the late Ndabaningi Sithole’s son to which a miffed Moyo promptly replied, saying the war veterans’ minister was a known thief of knickers during the fight for majority rule.
